5 males drowned in a pool on the backside of a waterfall in Jawhar space of Palghar district of Maharashtra on Thursday afternoon, the police stated.

A bunch of 13 individuals had gone to Kalmandvi waterfalls close to Jawhar city despite the lockdown, a neighborhood police official stated.

Two of them fell into the water whereas clicking selfies and a few others jumped in to rescue them. 5 of them drowned, he stated.

A staff of the Nationwide Catastrophe Response Drive (NDRF) was rushed to the scene.

The victims had been recognized as Nimesh Patel (30), Jay Bhoir (21), Prathamesh Chavan (18), Devendra Wagh (24) and Devendra Faltankar (21).

Earlier, a neighborhood police official had stated that the victims, who had been then but to be recognized, had been “youngsters”.
